    • He served as a teamster for General Edward Braddock's forces at their defeat before Fort Duquesne near Pittsburgh. He may have come into contact with George Washington, who was a line officer under Braddock, during this campaign.

      It is apparent that Boone first made the acquaintance of John Finley during the French and Indian Wars. Finley told Boone the first tantalizing stories of the land beyond the mountains in Kentucky.
