Between 1862 and 1865 [5, 6, 7] |
Private, 13th Kentucky Cavalry, Company D, C.S.A. |
- The 13th Cavalry Regiment [also called 10th and 11th Regiment Mounted Infantry] was assembled at Abingdon, Virginia. It was assigned to the Department of East Tennessee and later the Department of Western Virginia and East Tennessee. The unit confronted the Federals in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia, and on April 27, 1865, surrendered at Louisa, Kentucky. The field officers were Colonel Benjamin E. Caudill, Lieutenant Colonel D.J. Caudill, and Major John T. Chenoweth. [From Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System Regimental Records]
The Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Kentucky, Vol. II, lists Brandley [sic] Franklin, private, enlisted 4 Oct 1862 at Whitesburg, KY. He was recorded on the rolls of Company D, 13th Regt. Cav., Kentucky Volunteers, CSA.
Local Civil War researchers suggest that Bradley Franklin may have fought on the Union side, in the 47th Kentucky Infantry, in the latter part of the war. There is a service record for James B. Franklin in Company H; but the confirmation that this is the same person has not been made yet.
