    • Obituary of Grace Pack:
"Grace Eldor Wessling Pack, daughter of Lena and Martin Wessling, was born 27 July 1888 at Paton, Iowa. Her childhood days were spent at Paton, Iowa, where on February 8, 1910 she was united in marriage to Lloyd L. Pack. They resided west of Paton, Iowa until they moved to North Hero, Township of Redwood County in 1914. That farm was their home until they retired and moved into the village of Walnut Grove in 1949,

There are six children which blessed this home. All of these survive. They are Wendelena, Mrs. Wendelena Sanderson of Sleepy Eye; Genevieve, Mrs. Frank DeCourcy of Redwood Falls; Lolita, Mrs. Lolita Gremmert of Mankato; Violet, Mrs. Wilbur Koehler of Alexandria; Warren and Clifford of Walnut Grove.

Her husband passed away in 1951.

She was always a faithful member of the Methodist Church and active in the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Through the years when her children were young she was active with the 4-H clubs. She and her husband were members of the Farm Bureau. The North Hero Extension and Birthday Club was another fellowship of neighbors that she enjoyed very much.

She was always interested in the progress and activities of her fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. There was one grandchild and one great grandchild which died in infancy.

Mrs. Pack passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 31. She had been in the hospital about ten days and had surgery on January 23rd."

  • Notes
    • Grace (Grandma) grew up on a farm east of Paton, IA. Her mother died when she was 10, so she quit high school, when her sisters were gone from home, so she could care for her younger sister and keep house for her father. She said that her Aunt Libby (Elizabeth Sommers Arnold) across the road from them was a great help to her and taught her much of the ways of housework and cooking. Grace (Grandma) had one receipe, which I have since discovered was a Sommer's tradition, custard pie. Annette has the Wedding Certificate. Genevieve has the autograph album. Violet and Warren have many old pictures. Annette has copies and negatives of these old pictures.
