- Noah Reynolds records his death as follows:
"John H. Reynolds, returning home from prison, went to the State of Virginia to live. Marrying Miss Carrie Addington, the daughter of Philmore Addington, he lived a quiet and peaceable life. He served as police at Jenkins, Kentucky, about three years, then was appointed as prohibition agent for the eastern part of Kentucky, served about two years, his headquarters being at Lexington, Kentucky. His home now was at Pikesville [sic], Kentucky. On a raid in Johnson County, Kentucky, after a band of moonshiners, came in contact with a band of the McKenseys, who were moonshiners and jeaded by Joseph Paton McKensey. He was killed on the 26th day of August, 1921. Six of these moonshiners are serving life terms in the penitentiary for his murder."
Three Johnson County men were convicted of the murder of Reynolds. They were Clayton "Pete" McKinzie, Elbert Dye, and Ed Stambaugh.
