    • Mary was better known as Polly McFall.
      Tradition has it that she would hang her children by the neck to
      punish
      them for their misbehavior. Tradition says that Elbie "Garn" and one
      of
      his brothers cut down her hanging tree but had a good alibi and
      escaped
      her wrath that time. Elbie confessed to her on her death bed and she
      said that if she were able that she would get up and thrash him right
      then for cutting down her hanging tree.
      I have visited the grave sites of Robert Jefferson Fleming, Polly
      Mcfall Fleming, John Jackson Fleming and Mary Jane Mullins Fleming at
      the
      Fleming cemetary just outside Clintwood, Dickenson Co., VA. (LTF)
